How to Build a Dome in Minecraft
Start with the dome’s widest circle at roof level, keep every layer centered, and follow progressively smaller rings until the opening closes at the crown.
Build and verify the base circle
The first ring determines the whole roof. Measure its diameter in both directions and verify the complete outline before starting the next layer.
Keep a center reference
Use a temporary pillar, beacon beam, or crossed scaffolding lines to mark the vertical center. Each shrinking ring must remain balanced around that reference.
Add layers from outside inward
Place the next chart one block above the previous ring. Work around the entire circumference at one height before moving upward so accidental offsets remain visible.
Support large domes
Temporary ribs along the four center axes make survival construction easier. They provide platforms and confirm the expected height while the shell is incomplete.
Dome versus sphere
A dome begins at the sphere’s equator and only uses its upper half. Use the sphere generator when the build also curves below the widest layer.
